Helping an international company expand in Tennessee

Virginia-based company Science Applications International Corp (SAIC) retained Stones River Group to lead their site selection process in Tennessee as they explored the best location for the company’s first “Technology Integration Gateway.” The company tasked Stones River Group with scouting a variety of prospective locations, coordinating negotiations with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and local economic development officials, and facilitating introductions with key higher education stakeholders.

Top priorities for SAIC were a strong talent pool from which to hire new employees and close proximity to a leading university, which helped set Tennessee apart from other states that were competing for the company’s business. SRG worked closely with the company to narrow the prospective site location to Cookeville, Tennessee, and helped SAIC officials build relationships with faculty and administrators at Tennessee Technological University who could develop relevant programming of in-demand subjects like IT, cloud computing, cyber security and data sciences.

“The Cookeville gateway will provide an excellent opportunity to build a lasting relationship with Tennessee Tech, support the development of a 21st century workforce, and help local talent develop the in-demand skills necessary to address our customers’ most critical IT missions.”

-  SAIC Fmr. CEO Tony Moraco

SRG directed the final stages of the economic development agreements with the state of Tennessee, the City of Cookeville, the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce along with the lease agreement for the site. SRG also planned an official announcement event with the governor’s office, state and local elected officials, Tennessee Tech, and SAIC leadership, managed media engagement and outreach, and also planned an “open house” event to showcase the new facility. Today, the Technology Integration Gateway has become a valued employer in Cookeville that continues to expand and hire new employees.
